Welcome to Garfield Public Preschool Annex 1

Can you believe that your child has been in school for one month? The first month is the hardest for both children and parents, since it is a transition for both your child and you. As you can see, they like coming to school and they no longer cry when you leave. Children become acclimated to new situations and are social with their friends.

As the building Principal, I love going around to the classrooms, and talking to your children. They are enjoying their studies and are participating during story time, small groups and free play. Our students learn by working with the materials and supplies in the classroom.

Your child in the month of September practiced fire drills, and other emergency drills in our school to make sure that we are safe. They are showing us that they are becoming more independent each day.

Students are being screened by their classroom teachers with the ESI-R screening tool. This assessment will only take about 15 minutes and is completed individually. The Early Childhood Supervisor sent out a letter to all parents regarding this screening tool. If you should have any questions regarding this screening, please feel free to contact Mr. Nelke at 973-253-5607.

Make sure to sign off on the permission slips, for the Halloween Parade on October 29th which will be held at 9 am outdoors. In case of rain, parents will be provided with a recording to view at home. Please check our calendar for all our school events this month.

Safety protocols are always in check; make sure that if you are sending someone to pick up your child that he or she is on the list of allowed persons to pick up your child and that we have a photo identification of them. Children will not be released to anyone that is not on the list, and they must be at least 18 years old with identification.

Remember that we go outside for gross motor twice a day, please dress send your child with a jacket or sweater as the weather is becoming cooler, and they should wear sneakers. School uniforms should be worn Monday through Thursday, and on Friday's children may wear Purple to show School Spirit. School Spirit shirts should arrive by October 20th - we will keep parents posted if there are any delays.

Remember if you have questions for your classroom teacher, they can contact you during their prep periods or if you would like to e-mail them, please feel free and they will contact you as soon as they can. Teachers check their e-mails twice a day, and are very good at getting back to parents.

If you need any social services, please contact Ana Aguilar at 973-272-7470, ext. 1014 she is our school social worker.

I wish all of you a healthy, happy and successful October!
