Phase 3

The time has finally come!  We are excited to have your child return to school for Phase 3 on April 26, 2021. Phase 3 will be a four-day schedule for in-person instruction (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday); students will continue to be divided into two groups Purple and Gold in our system, in case we need to move back to a Hybrid Schedule due to the pandemic. Some parents have chosen for their child to stay in Remote Learning for five days a week for the rest of the school year. Teachers have updated their schedules and have provided them to parents prior to Spring Break.

Our drop off procedure has changed this year.  Students attending in-person will be lining up outside of our school by the stairs, at that time their temperature will be checked. All staff will also be required to take their temperature daily. All students and parents must wear a mask while waiting on the line, signage will be placed on the ground to help maintain social distancing (3 feet apart). Once your child has been checked in, you should say good-bye and leave your child with the Teacher and Para – we want to reduce the number of adults by the students, so once your child’s temperature has been taking please go back to your car. When they enter school, students will use hand sanitizers and staff will make sure that social distancing continues in the classroom for their safety and well-being.

Any child with a temperature of 100.4 or higher will be sent home.  Additionally, any child that appears to have symptoms that correlate with the COVID-19 virus will be sent home.  Be aware, new guidance from the Health Department requires that any student or staff member that has symptoms of COVID-19 will be sent home from school.  A COVID test will need to take place prior to your child or a staff member returning to school.  If you do not want your child tested, a quarantine period will be set in place for the health and safety of the preschool community.  I stress this information, as you need to be aware that if your child does not feel well, it is in the best interest to you and your child to keep your child home.  Please refer to the “When to Keep Your Child Home” hand out provided in the welcome packet sent home in November.  If you need clarity regarding this requirement, please feel free to contact our school nurse, Ms. Moore at your convenience.

Teachers will be sending home a folder that will be used to send back and forth communications with the classroom. The district has purchased a mask for every student, and each child has either been provided a lanyard and identification in October, if you did not receive your child’s in October, please reach out to your teacher. On the days your child comes to school they should have this lanyard with their identification which is labeled purple or gold.

Students will only need a backpack to take home supplies and work to be completed on remote learning days; lunch will be sent kept outside at dismissal and parents are to take one bag for their child and students will receive breakfast and lunch for the days that they will be working remotely. All Garfield students will receive free breakfast and lunch until further notice. Students need to wear there school uniform, uniform shirts can be ordered at YNK Uniform Store, Clifton, NJ or you can order a school spirt shirt through the school (before 4/21/21).

Students will be brought outside at dismissal time and weather permitting, line up by a class cone.  Parents are encouraged to remain in their vehicles until a few minutes before dismissal to avoid congregating in a large group.  We will do our best to have dismissal take place as quickly and efficiently as possible.  Please do not use this time to ask your child’s classroom teachers’ any questions, as they have office hours later in the day and are available to call, email, or meet you in a Teams meeting.  Please email the teacher that you would like to schedule an appointment and she will get back to you as quickly as possible. 

Make sure to be on time in the morning, please arrive at 8:15 am to line up, so that students can start promptly at 8:20 am. Students will begin to line up outside at 12:18 pm as dismissal is at 12:20 pm. Remember to wear your mask to pick up your child up, do not bring pets to pick up your child as this would be a safety concern and please follow safety protocols.
