Welcome to GPPA1
My name is David Nelke and I am the Principal of Garfield Public Preschool Annex #1 (GPPA1). During my 22 year tenure with the Garfield Public Schools I have served the district in various roles. I began as a security guard, and during this time I completed my Master's Degree in Education and became an Elementary Teacher (grades 2 and 4) at School #8. After going back to school to earn my Ed.S. Degree in Educational Leadership, I was hired as the Early Childhood Supervisor and spent 9 years in this role as part of the Preschool Administrative Team. Next, I served as Vice Principal of the ECLC for 1 year, and now I am in my 2nd year as Principal of GPPA1. Over the past 2+ decades I have had the privilege to work with many wonderful colleagues in different buildings and settings. These experiences have helped shape my goals and vision as a Principal. I strive to provide a learning environment for students that is both safe and secure while engaging, hands-on, and full of exploration. I believe building a strong partnership with families as students enter the school system for the very first time is key to their success and growth. We must work together to educate our students as a team. I am so excited to be working with you and your children this year.
